Puthia UNO stops child marriage
A child marriage was stopped at timely intervention of Puthia upazila nirbhai officer (UNO) at Tarapur village in Rajshahi yesterday.
The marriage ceremony of Sima, 14-year-old daughter of late Alep Uddin, also a student of Tarapur High School, was scheduled to be held at the village at about 10 am.
Being informed, Puthia UNO Khaled Masud sent a police team led by Puthia Union Parisad (UP) chairman Shafiqul Islam to the village.
The UP chairman pursuaded Sima's guardians to stop the child marriage and took assurance from them that they would continue their daughter's studies.
