Task force probes ealth of ex-AL MP Atiq

The task force investigating into the wealth of former Awami League lawmaker Atiqur Rahman Atiq yesterday visited his village home at Baroghoria in Sadar upazila. Elected for two consecutive terms, Atiq was listed as a corrupt suspect by the Anti-Corruption Commission. He has already submitted statement of his wealth worth Tk 43 lakh. The former MP told UNB by phone that he has no ill-gotten wealth. Property inherited from father and savings of remuneration as MP for 10 years -- all have been shown in the wealth statement to the ACC. Major Zulfiqar Ali, who is heading the four-member task force, said they have examined different sources and interrogated officials to ascertain the wealth of Atiq, also president of Sherpur district Awami League. They may conduct further inquiry.
