Cyber crime
People of our country are envisioning 'Digital Bangladesh' whereas some crimes are being traced in the digital world. One such crime is cyber crime. It is actually a criminal activity done by users through the Internet. These crimes committed through the Internet are of several types. These include copyright infringement, software piracy, password cracking or cheating by others' ID, cyber pornography, e-mail threats, hacking others' websites and so on. Sometimes people superimpose the images of others through the Internet and create great problems. Hackers continue hacking of important websites across the globe as well as plunder the secrecy of others. For example, the recent hacking of Rab's (Rapid Action Battalion) website degraded the image of Bangladeshi defence.
Another emerging issue is cyber pornography which engulfs the youth all over the world, especially the third world countries like ours. It actually demoralises the young generation through the Internet. Besides these, E-mail threats and computer virus create serious problem for Internet users. Some prominent persons and organisations are the victims of e-mail threats.
All these crimes are a contemporary phenomenon in Bangladesh. Though the Information and Communication Act 2006 has been defined and brought under our criminal jurisprudence, it has not been implemented. So, the lawmakers and the technocrats of the country should come forward to enact and implement the appropriate laws against cyber crimes. With the implementation of the Act, we can really pave the way for a true 'Digital Bangladesh' .
