Utilisation of urea

Palma's report on the subject, printed in the back page of your June 4th issue is of vital importance for Bangladesh agriculture. In my opinion it should have been in the first page rather than the report on Myanmar Junta's usual attitude. UDP (Urea Deep Placement) or as locals call it; "Guti" Urea fertilisation, as reported; has two big advantages. Firstly it reduces the cost for fertiliser per unit area of land being farmed; and secondly, crop yield increases by 25 percent! This is a very significant matter, given that land available for farming is slowly but surely going down. Given these two very important advantages; the commercial significance of this discovery should help us to attain sufficiency in rice production! Who knows, that possibly, in the days to come; we may even export quality rice! I would request our government to pass this information to all farmers, as soon as possible through wide publicity in all audio-visual and print media. Also all agriculture officials should be trained on it, and demonstrate it to our farmers; the use of "urea Briquettes" to help us in increasing rice production. This productivity gain can be a boon for us in the coming days. Meanwhile, I wonder if our agricultural scientists can explore the possibility of this method for increasing the yield of our vegetable farming and fruit growing! If this succeeds, it can transform the agriculture sector towards higher productivity and may be, even make it available for export! We will request you to follow up and report on this matter for many interested readers!
