Why abroad?

Dr. Rashid Hyder, Senior Ophthalmic Consultant Gulshan 2, Dhaka
We learned that Home Minister Sahara Khatun has been successfully operated on for her hip injury in a Singapore hospital. We prayed for her early and complete recovery. Being a Bangladeshi senior doctor, I cannot check my curiosity to ask a question to our health minister-----was Sahara Khatun's treatment beyond the scope in our country or we were not confident to operate on her? Particularly, our health minister should be in a good position to answer this question as he himself is one of the top orthopaedic surgeons in the country. If the treatment is beyond the scope in the country, that is another matter. As far as I know, lately our health services have been doing better than before. Our treatment facilities have also improved tremendously. Still then if for every treatment our ministers go abroad then how our public will get confidence to have treatment in the country? I feel that ministers should be the first line of people in growing confidence among the public regarding any facilities inside the country.
