Rally to mark sanitation month
A colourful rally was held at Shariatpur town to mark the National Sanitation Month October-2007.
Shariatpur district administration in cooperation with the Department of Public Health and Engineering (DPHE), Unnayan Shahojogy Team (UST) and WaterAid Bangladesh jointly organised the rally, says a UST press release.
Processionists wearing colourful caps carried banners, festoons, placards and posters with them.
The rally was followed by an advocacy meeting held at the deputy commissioner's (DC) conference room. Shariatpur DC Md Habibur Rahman Khan chaired the meeting.
Speakers laid emphasis on the leading role of public representatives including Union Parisad (UP) chairmen, members and teachers in setting up hygienic latrines at villages.
Among others, additional deputy commissioner (ADC-Gen) Swapon Kumar Boral, UST director SMA Kamal and Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) executive engineer Md Abdul Wahab Sikder, Shariatpur Pourasabha chairman M K M Nasiruddin Kalu, Sadar upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Azimuddin Biswas and Moloy Chowdhury addressed.
