BNP's negative posture
This is neither a surprise nor unexpected that the BNP would not send any parliamentarian to visit Tipaimukh for a fact finding mission. I am really surprised how a political party like the BNP can make so many mistakes in taking political decisions since the general election in December 2008.
If the BNP sticks to such a negative and destructive political approach, the party might ultimately turn into a den of troublemakers and dishearten their millions of supporters. It looks like their supporters are captive in the hands of a few discredited politicians who dominate the Standing Committees and guide the decision making process. Begum Zia is a politician. She should realize that her party is just falling apart because of extremely negative politics.
The signal is already on the air that the historic "front row seats" is not just the idea of a simple person, it is part of the present non-cooperative ideology of the BNP. The former speaker just played the move.
There is enough evidence in the trouble ridden world that if the path of political negotiation is abandoned, the next course is that the party resorts to violence as an alternative to constructive politics. I hope the BNP will come back to normal politics of the people and participate in parliamentary proceedings.
We are sure that the ensuing visit is just the beginning. There will be many more visits before Bangladesh would be able to finalise its position. The input of the BNP is necessary. If the BNP fails to respond, it will be their failure which might lead to violence on the street and in other institutions where the BNP can play their cards.
