14-yr-old boy beaten to death on suspicion of theft in Dhaka

A 14-year-old boy was beaten to death in Mohammadpur area in the capital on suspicion of theft early today.

The deceased was identified as Md Akash, a resident of Tikkapara in Mohammadpur.

Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Mahfuzul Haque said construction workers of an under-construction building at Aziz Mohalla beat the boy mercilessly around 5: on suspicion of stealing iron rods from the site.

Akash later died of his injuries at the site, the OC said.

Police rushed to the spot and recovered the body, the OC said.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital Morgue for autopsy.

He added that no one had been arrested as of the filing of this report around 5:00pm today, as the perpetrators were on the run.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators, he informed.
