16 Bangladeshi youths return from India after 3 years jail

Indian police today handed over 16 Bangladeshi youths to Bangladesh through Benapole check post after three years of imprisonment in India.

Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police, reports our Benapole correspondent.

The returnees are Bulbul Ahmed, 18, Mohsin Sheikh, 17, Abul Hossain, 16, Masum Billah, 15, Rezaul Khan, 18, Shahjalal, 17, Hasan Halder, 17, Nazmul Islam, 17, Masud Talukder, 18, Julhas Sheikh, 18, Rashed Moral, 17, Rashedul Islam, 18, Saiduzzaman, 16, Abu Musa, 15, Mizanur Rahman, 17, and Mahbul Shikder, 17.

They are residents of Satkhira, Khulna, and Madaripur districts.

After serving the sentence, they were in the custody of Rescue Foundation of India, a shelter home in Tamil Nadu.

Bulbul Ahmed, one of the returnees said, three and a half years ago, they went to Tamil Nadu by crossing the border through brokers, hoping for a good job.

Indian police arrested them and produced them before a court which sentenced them to 3 years.

Benapole Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib said the youths were repatriated tonight through a special travel permit issued by the Indian government.

The youths have been handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after completing their immigration formalities.

From there, an NGO, Justice and Care, took them to their shelter home to hand them over to their families.
