Madrasa teacher sent to jail for raping student in Brahmanbaria

A madrasa teacher was sent to jail by a Brahmanbaria court yesterday in a case filed over raping a 15-year-old student in Nasirnagar upazila of the district.

Police arrested Shihab Uddin, 30, yesterday afternoon, our local correspondent reports quoting Md Shohag Rana, officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar Police Station.

Shihab is from Lalkhai upazila of Habiganj and a teacher of Shyampur Jamia Islamia Talimunnesa Madinatul Ulum Mohila Madrasa in Nasirnagar's Purbobhag union, said the OC.

He was sent to jail by a local court after he confessed to raping the student, the police official added.

On Friday night, the victim's mother filed a case against Shihab Uddin with Nasirnagar Police Station, the OC said.

According to the case statement, Shihab had been pursuing the female student for a while, but when the girl did not respond, Shihab forcefully took her to a madrasa room a week ago and raped her multiple times.

She was later admitted to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, the statement read.
