The deceased was identified as Md Kajol (49). He was charged with the murder of truck driver Abdur Rahman, killed during a robbery attempt, reports our correspondent quoting police.

Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abul Kalam Azad said, "Following information on robbery preparations in the middle of the night, a Rab team went to the link road area."

"Rab later got into a gunfight with a gang of robbers," said the OC, adding that "after the brief gunfight, Kajol's body was discovered at the spot, along with few firearms and sharp weapons."

Later the body was sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

Earlier on July 16, after failing to loot a cattle-carrying truck at Bridge number four on the Bayezid-Foujderhat link road area, a group of robbers killed truck driver Abdur Rahman. Later, a relative of Rahman filed a complaint with the Sitakunda Police Station. Rab and police arrested eight people in connection with the incident.
