Government might have valid reasons for the ban. But that should be made clear to the people.

I would rather say there is no confusion. This exercise is in conformity with the typical patterns practised in the third world countries, where ideas are first thrown in the field as rumors or loose talk to gauge reactions. They call it politics! Is there no other option available in handling the current political situation?

It is unbelievable that there is a communication gap among the home minister, home secretary and IGP. However, I do support this step taken by MK Alamgir and Syed Ashraf. The people of Bangladesh will sleep peacefully for a month.

This is a wake-up call for the government. Firstly, we lost the Padma bridge project due to the government's support for corrupt officials. Now this is another insult to us that the government is abusing its own people for making profits.

What will break the government's silence about millions of garment workers' health and safety issues? We have already lost more than 1500 lives over the last 10 months because of fire, building collapse and clashes.

That building in the photograph looks like it is in bad condition. It might easily catch a fire. And who knows how many garment workers they try to cram into that building?
