Continuing Prof. J.N. Islam's legacy
Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam, professor emeritus of University of Chittagong, died recently leaving behind his beloved Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (RCMPS). This centre was created to promote advanced study and research in mathematical and physical sciences. It has been playing a very significant role in providing research and training at the M.Sc., Ph.D. and post-doctoral levels.
To keep this centre of excellence alive and continue its activities the following steps have been contemplated:
i) The RCMPS may be renamed as Jamal Nazrul Islam Research Centre for Mathematical and Physical Sciences (JNI-RCMPS),
ii) A research Professorship may be established in the name of professor J.N. Islam,
iii) A family member of Professor J.N. Islam, for example, his wife, may be included as a member of the governing body of the RCMPS and lastly,
iv) A Trust Fund may be instituted to publish the still unpublished papers and books by J.N. Islam.
These are a few steps that we can take to honour the memory and legacy of one of the greatest sons of Bangladesh.
