2 held with stolen bikes in Noakhali
Police arrested two suspected members of an inter-district motorcycle theft syndicate and recovered two stolen motorcycles in Noakhali Sadar on Friday.
The arrestees are Md Faisal, 35, and Jahangir Alam, 32, said Sudharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Nazrul Islam.
Police said a motorcycle belonging to Independent Television’s Noakhali correspondent Abu Naser Manju was stolen from the district town on July 12, while another owned by Joydeb was stolen from Sonapur about two months earlier.
On Friday, Faisal allegedly demanded Tk 10,000 via mobile banking from Joydeb in exchange for returning the stolen motorcycle. Joydeb and his friends lured the suspects to a meeting point on the pretext of paying more money and informed police, who arrested them.
Police recovered both motorcycles based on the suspects’ information.
The OC said Faisal faces 11 cases and Jahangir two. Police suspect they were involved in several recent motorcycle thefts in Noakhali. The two were sent to court yesterday in two separate theft cases.
