65-year-old man arrested in Moulvibazar for attempted rape of a 7-year-old

Police in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar district have arrested a 65-year-old man accused of attempting to rape a seven-year-old girl.

The accused, identified as Chan Mia, was arrested late Thursday night from Munshibazar following an operation led by Kamalganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Amir Uddin, SI Mithu Roy, and ASI Hamidur Rahman.

According to the child’s father, Chan Mia, an employee at a local shop, called the child inside when no one was around and attempted to rape her.

SI Amir said a commotion broke out in the area immediately after locals became aware of the incident, and the accused fled. As soon as the incident was reported to police, they launched an operation and arrested Chan Mia from Munshibazar at around 10pm on Thursday.

The child is currently receiving treatment at a hospital, he added.

Manik Mia, the victim’s father, said, “I want justice for what happened to my child. I want justice so that no one dares to do this again.”

He confirmed that he filed a case with Kamalganj Police Station late Thursday night.

Kamalganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Kamar Uddin said that the child’s treatment is being closely monitored.
