Couple, eight-month-old child found dead in Madaripur
Police recovered the bodies of a couple and their eight-month-old child from a relative’s house in Madaripur Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased were identified as Chinmoy Das, his wife Isha Das, and their infant child, said Madaripur Superintendent of Police Md Habibur Rahman.
Speaking to The Daily Star, the police superintendent said the bodies were recovered around 1:00am from the Amirabad area of the upazila.
“Upon arrival, we saw the body of a man named Chinmoy hanging with a child, estimated to be between six and eight months old, tied with a rope around the neck. Beside the bed lay the body of his wife, Isha.”
Police initially suspect that Chinmoy killed his wife before taking his own life along with the child, the SP said.
According to police, the incident took place at the house of Misti Baroi, wife of Italy expatriate Jatin Baroi and a relative of Chinmoy.
“We are questioning Misti and have brought her to the police station for interrogation,” Habibur said.
“At this stage, we cannot confirm whether it was murder or suicide. The room where the bodies were found had been locked from the inside. We hope to determine the exact cause after investigation and post-mortem examinations,” he added.
The bodies have been kept at Madaripur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The SP also said Isha had been physically ill and had a catheter attached for urinary complications.
Police and local sources said Misti had been living for around three years in a rented house in Amirabad.
Chinmoy arrived at the house yesterday with his wife and child, introducing himself to locals as Misti’s cousin from the Satpara area of Muksudpur upazila in Gopalganj.
