Rab yesterday detained two people, including a former NCP leader, in connection with the murder of a hosiery worker in Narayanganj's Bandar upazila.

The arrestees were identified as Shoaib Rahman Soheb, 42, the prime accused in the case, and Md Sumon, 38, according to a Rab-11 press release issued this evening.

Lt Commander Naeem Ul Haque of Rab-11 said the two were arrested during a special drive in the Godnail area under Siddhirganj Police Station last night. They were later handed over to Bandar Police Station.

According to the case statement, hosiery worker Alamgir Hossain was attacked with a hammer during a local arbitration over a financial dispute at an auto-rickshaw garage in Salehnagar on October 3 last year.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died the following morning while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, his sister, Kalpana Begum, filed a murder case with Bandar Police Station.

Nirob Raihan, organising secretary of NCP Narayanganj unit, said Shoaib had served as joint coordinator of the party's Bandar upazila committee before the committee was dissolved.
