Gazipur garment worker murdered; husband on the run, police say
A garment worker was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband following a family dispute in Sreepur, Gazipur, early today.
The victim, Nasima Akter, 27, was the daughter of the late Abdur Razzak of Bonpara village in Kailashpur, Purbadhala upazila of Netrokona. She worked at a local garment factory.
The suspect, Saidul Islam, fled the scene after the incident, and police have launched a manhunt to detain him.
The incident took place around 4:00am at a rented house in the Gorgoria Masterbari area of Sreepur municipality.
The victim's brother, Masum Ahmed, said another tenant of the house found Nasima lying in a pool of blood on the floor early in the morning and alerted the neighbours. She was rushed to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex, where doctor declared her dead.
Dr Shafiqul Islam, health and family planning officer of Sreepur upazila, said Nasima was brought dead to the hospital.
Confirming the murder, Sanjoy Saha, inspector (operation) of Sreepur Police Station, told The Daily Star that police visited the scene after receiving the information. Preliminary findings suggest the couple had been experiencing long-standing family disputes, which are believed to have led to the killing. Multiple injuries from a sharp weapon were found on the victim's body, he said.
The inspector added that the husband fled the scene after the incident. Police are conducting raids to detain him, and a case is being processed.
