Man carrying pistol-like object detained during minister’s Natore visit

A young man carrying a dummy weapon was detained on Friday afternoon in Natore’s Dighapatia area during a visit by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam.

The detainee, identified as Md Al Amin, 29, of Kanaikhali village in Natore Sadar upazila, is a student at a private medical college, according to police.

Sub-inspector Md Shahadat Hossain of Natore Sadar Police Station said law enforcers detained Al Amin on suspicion at the Uttara Ganabhaban area when he arrived at the event.

Upon searching him, officers recovered a pistol-like object and brought him to the police station, the SI said.

"The detainee claimed he was carrying it for his own safety," the SI added.

Further action will be taken against him following consultations with senior officials, the SI said.
