Mirpur OC withdrawn over Tk 5 lakh bribery allegation
Mirpur Model Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohammad Golam Azam has been withdrawn following allegations of bribery.
Police said he has been attached to the central reserve office under the administration wing of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters.
Confirming the development to The Daily Star last night, Mirpur Division Deputy Commissioner Md Mostak Sarkar said the OC was attached to DMP “for administrative reasons” and an investigation was underway.
Police sources said on April 26, a woman named Samsad Ara Sathi accused OC Golam Azam of taking Tk 5 lakh in bribes, allegedly in exchange for recovering control of a market. She submitted a written allegation to the DMP commissioner.
Five days later, on Friday, DMP Commissioner Md Sarwar issued an order directing the withdrawal of Mirpur Model Police OC.
