CTG issue

Abu Shahjalal Azad, Dhanmondi, Dhaka
The caretaker system was not democratic. Every time during national election we had to find people from outside the political arena to form the CTG. But even those selected to be members of the CTG were not above criticism. If the system is reintroduced, it will make the whole process more complicated. The first caretaker government of 2006 could not perform its tasks and a number of advisers including Dr. Akbar Ali Khan and Advocate Sultana Kamal had to resign. Their failure led to the creation of the second CTG in 2007. Against this backdrop, we believe, time has come to look for a more democratic and sustainable caretaker/interim government system. We expect our politicians to keep this long-term objective in view during dialogue.
