Death Brought On By Drugs
A section of youths in the country are on the verge of self-destruction brought on by a consumption of drugs and drug abuse. People from every nook and corner of the country are seen taking drugs nowadays. Media reports suggest various lethal drugs such as yaba, phensedyl and heroin are being illegally trafficked into the country from India and Myanmar. In such localities as Nayabazar, Chankharpool, Moghbazar, Malibagh, Karwan Bazar, Khilgaon, Saidabad, Gandaria and Mohammadpur, drugs are being sold in broad daylight through dodging the administration and the police.
Small children too are involved with this illegal trade. Khushi, who is well-known as “Queen of Drugs” in Moghbazar, admits that girls are safer and are trustworthy in carrying drugs. Locals assert that people often complain at the police station, but nothing happens after that. It was seen in Chankharpul area that five to six people were using the same syringe in injecting drugs into their bodies.
Along with other countries, Bangladesh observed International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26. But things must move beyond a day. Parents are worried about the possible impact of drugs on their children.
It is time to say “NO” to drugs and build up a social movement against the menace.
