Denial of write-up by Khaleda Zia

A. H. Dewan, South Kafrul, Dhaka
Khaleda Zia's denial in the parliament that she did not write the article published in The Washington Times is now the talk of the town. I was surprised when the article was reproduced in Bangladeshi dailies including TDS with Khaleda Zia as the author. At that time, she and her camp followers were euphoric, as though it was 'something great' to hamstring the government's efforts to improve ties with the USA. But now they are all in the denial mode! There was then a hue and cry that Khaleda Zia implored USA to interfere in the affairs of this sovereign state. But they did not disown it. Beguiling tactics is a usual norm in politics while going at hammer and tongs with the opponents, but how come a popular leader and two-time former PM resort to mendacity of this magnitude?
