Don't build power plant at Rampal
Environmentalists as well as the public are concerned about the government's decision to build a coal-fired power plant at Rampal in Bagerhat. If government builds this power plant at Rampal, the Sundarbans will be at stake in the future. The Sundarbans is the world's largest mangrove forest and it is vital for maintaining the ecological balance of Bangladesh. The impact of coal-fired power plant will be negative and irreversible in that area which cannot be mitigated by any means. No one will disagree that we need more electricity but it must be generated in a way that will not pose any threat to the environment. The south-western part of Bangladesh is facing severe climatic changes. This kind of power plant will only aggravate the sufferings of the people of that region. So considering all these things government should stop building the proposed power plant at Rampal.
