The government has placed the highest priority on mosquito eradication to tackle the ongoing dengue situation, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said today.

Speaking at a press briefing at the Secretariat, the minister stated that comprehensive measures have been undertaken to control the spread of dengue, which include destroying mosquito breeding grounds, intensifying fogging operations, and strengthening public awareness campaigns.

He said hospitals across the country have taken adequate preparations to ensure proper treatment for dengue patients. Bed capacity has been increased, while sufficient supplies of saline and essential medicines have been stocked. Doctors and healthcare workers have been kept on alert to manage any surge in cases.

“The government alone cannot prevent dengue. Public awareness and cooperation are crucial. No stagnant water should be allowed to accumulate in or around homes,” he said, urging local government bodies to intensify mosquito control drives in their respective areas.

Amid a surge in mosquitoes over the past month, the health ministry has initiated a move to check whether the insecticide used to kill mosquitoes is effective.

The move came after the health ministry held a meeting with the city corporation and health officials yesterday on ways to control mosquitoes, they said.
