Hill cutting for resorts won’t be tolerated: CHT minister
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan today said the construction of any tourist resort that damages the environment or involves hill cutting will not be tolerated.
The government does not support developing the tourism industry at the cost of the hills’ natural beauty, he added.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at a views-sharing meeting at the hall room of Rangamati Zila Parishad this morning.
Dipen said there will no longer be any opportunity to waste money by just creating projects in the name of development. Projects cannot be taken up where there is no need.
He also said proper supervision of every work must be ensured. The development of the district is reflected through the work of the Zila Parishad. So, no irregularities will be accepted in the name of service.
“Currently, our main priorities are the health and education sectors,” said the minister.
Presided over by Rangamati District Council Chairman Kajal Talukder, the meeting was attended, among others, by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Konkon Chakma, Vice Chairman of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Sheikh Saleh Ahmed, and Chief Executive Officer of Rangamati District Council Khondaker Mohammad Rizaul Karim.
