When they were in the opposition, Awami League had observed 173 days of hartals, with violent acts wrecking havoc all around. They had vandalised the then newly built railway station in Chittagong. Now the BNP is following their footsteps. We urge the opposition not to resort to hartals. People do not like it as it makes life miserable and makes a huge dent in the economy. photo: star Photo: Star We think the time has come for people to compel Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the opposition leader Khaleda Zia to sit for a dialogue and come to a solution of how the next general election would be held. The election must be held in a free, fair and neutral manner. The political parties must listen to peoples' voices; otherwise, the consequences will be dire.
