A 27-year-old lawyer at Jashore Judge Court was injured after allegedly being tortured by her husband last night.

Police confirmed that they rescued Anika Sarkar in response to a call made to the national emergency service number 999.

She was taken to Jashore General Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

Anika said she met her husband, Asaduzzaman, through Facebook.

A few months into the marriage, Anika reportedly discovered that her husband was addicted to drugs, which led to recurring arguments. She said she had been subjected to repeated physical abuse.

Describing last night’s incident, Anika said that following a verbal altercation, Asaduzzaman assaulted her with punches, kicks, and a stick, leaving her severely injured. Unable to endure the torture, she called 999 for help.

Dr Rahul Ghosh of Jashore General Hospital’s emergency department confirmed that she had injury marks on her body and is currently receiving treatment in the female surgery ward.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Jashore Kotwali Model Police Station, Kazi Babul Hossain, said legal action will be taken against the husband once a written complaint is filed.
