Ordeal of travel by Silk City Express

Professor Md. Anwar Ali, Former Dean, Bangladesh Open University
As one of my relatives died on July 1, I travelled by Silk City Express (Train No. 753) from Dhaka airport railway station to Rajshahi on July 4 to pay respect to his soul along with my wife and son. When the train arrived at the station, we found unbearable jam in all the gates where hundreds of passengers were trying to get down and get on in an undisciplined manner. There were no light in the carriages. Although we managed to get in, we could not find our seats. My son lost his spectacles. I felt someone was trying to pickpocket me. We were travelling in the compartment called 'Jha,' and it was the last compartment. To our surprise we found that its back wall was open through which hawkers, thieves and muggers were entering. Children can easily fall down from such opening. I hope the railway authorities will be serious enough to ensure the safety and security of the passengers.
