Protecting our farmlands

It is a great escape for me. In recent years, the landscape of the village has been changing so fast that even a regular visitor like me finds it difficult to get along with the change. The first victim of urbanisation is farmlands. Every day a new house, or a shop, or a saw-mill is being built on farmlands. Those enterprises are being built on fertile agricultural lands or ponds. I am not against urbanisation. I strongly believe in development of rural life. But, again, it is this development that is causing the farmlands to shrink. As a result, village people are being forced to buy their daily essentials like rice and other agricultural products, from the market. The country is losing large swathes of agricultural lands every year. The government must come up with ideas and plans to protect our farmlands.
