We have fantastic democracy in Bangladesh now.

It seems to me that shutting down of Amar Desh is an authoritarian action on the part of the government which is desperate to stifle the opposition in bid to tackle its self-created problems. The step will remain a black mark in the country's democratic history.

It seems there is no democracy in Bangladesh. Most of the opposition leaders are in jail and they are being harassed continuously by the police. In a democracy opposition leaders are not dealt with like this. The arrest of Amar Desh editor and the shutting down of the newspaper is just a part of this whole undemocratic process.

We condemn such undemocratic act by the government. Choking opposition's voice is not the way in a democracy.

Dr. Yunus will at least urge GOB to expedite wrapping up the war crimes tribunal, awarding maximum penalty to the war criminals, now under trial!!
