Stability AI raises $76m as entertainment groups back generative AI company

Stability AI, the company behind the Stable Diffusion image-generation model, has raised $76 million in a Series B funding round backed by some of the world's largest entertainment companies.

The investment brings Stability AI's total fundraising to $232 million. Participants include Universal Music Group, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, and video game publisher Electronic Arts, alongside AMD Ventures and Pacific Alliance Ventures.

The involvement of entertainment companies is notable because several of the investors also have commercial relationships with Stability AI or operate in industries directly affected by generative artificial intelligence.
Stability AI said it plans to use the money to expand its suite of creative production products and its professional services business. The company develops AI tools spanning image, music, and video generation.

Chief executive Prem Akkaraju, who joined the company in 2024, said the investment supported Stability AI's vision of using generative AI to give producers, musicians, and other creators new tools.

The company has increasingly sought partnerships with major entertainment groups as it attempts to integrate generative AI into established creative production. It reached agreements with Universal Music and EA in October 2025 and Warner Music the following month, with the companies participating in the development of AI tools rather than simply licensing finished products.

Stability AI has also been involved in disputes over the use of copyrighted material in training generative AI systems. It largely prevailed in a UK copyright case brought by Getty Images, although a separate Getty case in the US remains before the courts.

The funding comes as AI companies and media groups continue to explore licensing and partnership arrangements intended to reconcile the rapid adoption of generative technology with questions around copyright, compensation, and the control of creative works.
