Teller's agony: Fake, torn banknotes
This refers to the letter titled “Torn and fake bank notes” published on June 26. I also faced many unpleasant situations, while working as a teller. Generally customers want fresh bank notes and most of them even refuse to take slightly torn notes. What will the banks do with the slightly torn notes received from clients?
Fake note is also a big problem as general people can hardly identify these notes. Fake notes can be identified by their appearances which a teller is very familiar with. Many banks also have fake note detecting machines. But when there is heavy rush at the counter, a teller may not be able to check all the notes carefully. When a fake note is found later, a teller has to give penalty for it. Can one be punished for unknowingly taking a fake note? Law enforcers should make every effort to bring the banknote counterfeiters to book.
