The Delicate Balance
A key part of caring for vegetables gardens is controlling pests and scavenging birds that damage the plants. Sometimes covering trees in netting is not a bad idea. Using the right type of netting can protect the gardens. Using the wrong type, or badly erected netting can still protect the vegetables but that could cost the lives of many friendly birds. Some farmers in the rich vegetables growing region of Jessore use netting to save their eggplants from preying birds. Use of taut-knit nets with pesticides sprayed over them, protect eggplants from predators but kills many a friendly bird, thereby causing imbalance in natural biodiversity.
