Cricket returns in Sylhet

Star Online Report

While the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is gearing up for a return to competitive cricket through a three-team 50-over tournament from October 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Sylhet has already witnessed the return of competitive cricket.

Competitive cricket in the country has been halted since mid-March when the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) was postponed following the completion of its first-round due to coronavirus pandemic.

A three-team T20 tournament has started at the Sylhet International Stadium with cricketers, who play at the highest level, participating in it. BCB director Shafiul Alam Nadel inaugurated the tournament organized by Sylhet Cricketers Association on Friday.

All the three teams -- Sylhet Express, Sylhet Warriors and Sylhet Rangers -- participating have Sylhet's first-class cricketers in their squad. Sylhet Warriors is led by Imtiaz Hossain while Sylhet Rangers will be led by former national player Alok Kapali and Enamul Haque Jr will be leading Sylhet Express. Sylhet Warriors played against Sylhet Rangers on the first day.
