Fizz in Domingo’s Test plans following recent improvements
Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo had previously reiterated that Mustafizur Rahman was going to find it hard to make the Test team until he gets the ball to swing back in to the right hander. How far has the paceman come in that regard?
Asked whether Mustafizur will be played in the first Test against West Indies after he was named alongside four other pacers in the Test squad, Domingo was positive about Mustafizur's continuity in the longer version.
"He's worked really hard with our bowling coach over the last eight to nine months and to try and make sure he gets that shape in consistently. I am sure you can see from the white ball performances that he has been able to do that. Still not a hundred percent consistent but has been a big improvement in the way he is shaping the ball in," Domingo remarked.
There was certainly one thing that Domingo felt Mustafizur can do which, while not part of the left-armer's skill set, would give the Tigers an advantage going into the match. During the ODIs, Fizz created a rough patch outside the off stump of right-hand batsmen as early as the 11th over. Something like that would bring the spinners into play.
"He is a quality performer and has a lot of experience. He's got variety and as a left-armer, he can create that rough outside the right-hander's off stump for our off-spinners to come into the game. He is definitely an option going into this Test match."
"He has trained really well, he is fit and his energy level has been great and skill level has improved. He is definitely an option going forward judging after the improvements he has shown in the last few months," Domingo concluded.
