Gaining bowling fitness may take time: Jayed

Star Online Report

Bangladesh pacer Abu Jayed mentioned after today's practice session at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium that even though the overall fitness level of players has increased since starting individual practice, it still may take some time for the pace bowlers to achieve bowling fitness.

"If we talk about fitness then I'd have to say it has improved. We were a bit worried when we had started practicing two weeks ago. But then after we started doing indoor and running sessions, I think our fitness has improved since then. But it will take some time to gain bowling fitness. We are now working on it," said Jayed after today's practice session.

Faster bowlers were the ones who were thought to be needing most time to gain bowling fitness after the coronavirus enforced halt. It was also mentioned by the ICC that the bowlers looking at resuming Test cricket after the novel coronavirus lockdown will require two to three months of preparation to avoid injuring themselves.

Jayed is one of the regular faces in the Tigers' bowling line-up in Tests. With the upcoming Sri Lanka tour that will see Bangladesh play three Tests against the Islanders starting from October 24, Jayed would be hoping to gain his fitness back soon.
