‘Getting out for 20-30 runs is a crime’

Tamim Iqbal's Fortune Barishal succumbed to their second defeat of the tournament as they fell short of Gazi Group Chattogram's 151/7 by 10 runs. Tamim said that the experienced players could have taken more responsibility in this game while the batting could have been smarter.

The Barishal innings did not pan out as Tamim would have liked despite the captain getting his team off to a good start with the bat. Tamim's 32 off 32 did not create the platform that he would have hoped for and their chase fizzled out against some good tight bowling.

"I felt that they started very well and we came back well after that. The wicket wasn't great for batting and at the end of the day we gave away 15 runs in excess. The dropped catches became important too and then the three sixes in an over. We had to pay for those," Tamim said.

Mehedi Miraz was sent out to open the innings but it did not pay dividends. Barishal losing wickets regularly did not help their cause. Middle-order of Towhid Hridoy and Irfan Shukkur were crucial blows at a very important stage of the game. After that Afif Hossain, known for his strokeplay, was castled trying to score off Shoriful Islam, who is in a good vein of form with the ball.

"We are playing a game and the players can't be blamed as its part of the game. We lost wickets regularly after a good start with the bat. The wickets of Hridoy and Afif in particular were important since at that time the game was in our hands.

"The thing is that we have to enjoy the game without bothering about the results. We had a difficult first game and we came back well after that but today we lost again. I'm certain we learned something from this since the game was never too far away from us. The two wickets were crucial when Mustafizur got Irfan out and after two good deliveries Hridoy got out to. I think we needed to bat smarter at that time," Tamim explained.

Tamim felt that he or Afif should have stuck till the end and finished the match.

"Obviously, I think getting out for 20-30 runs is a crime, especially in T20. We played enough deliveries to understand the wicket. As I said, it wasn't the best wicket to bat on but I think either me or Afif should have finished the match. We were the experienced ones in the side and should have taken the responsibility of winning the match."

Shoriful, who bagged three wickets for 27 runs in his four overs wanted to carry on bowling this way. His side are on a roll having won all three matches so far in this tournament.

"I am feeling really good. We bowled well from the off and the captain and the coach supported us a lot. I would try to bowl like this in all of the matches in this tournament. You can never say what will happen in the Mirpur wicket. We had the confidence that we will do something good when the opportunity came. I fell that bowling well from the off is allowing us to win games," Shoriful said.
