Nazmul replaced as ACC president by Shah
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan, who was the president of the Asian Cricket Council in 2018, has been replaced as president by BCCI secretary Jay Shah during a virtual annual general meeting held on Saturday. Hassan took over as president of the ACC from Ehsan Mani till 2020.
"The ACC continues to foster healthy rivalry among some of the biggest sport playing nations while it takes the sport deeper into smaller pockets. We must remain committed to this cause and ensure there is all-around development in the region," Shah was quoted as saying by Times of India.
ACC is responsible for organising the Asia Cup tournaments which was postponed last year owing to the coronavirus pandemic. The tournament was rescheduled to June 2021 with Sri Lanka set to host the event. Pakistan originally had the hosting rights for the 2020 tournament and were then awarded hosting rights for the 2022 edition.
The BCCI has not yet indicated whether it would want to play the Asia Cup as a preparatory event before India host the T20 World Cup in October-November, but Shah taking charge at the ACC could have an impact on the logistics of the tournament.
