No complaints made to BCB regarding match-fixing

Star Sports Report

The Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League match between OLD DOHS and Brothers Union yesterday raised quite a few eyebrows as OLD DOHS were unable to come away with a win even with nine wickets in hand and 13 runs required in two overs. Although the situation in the end was bizarre, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not receive any official complaints regarding the match.

Chasing a target of 140, OLD DOHS's Pritom Kumar, with his side needing three runs off the last ball, left the wide yorker from Sujan Howlader alone. The batsman expected a wide ball to be given but while on-field umpire Ali Amran did not agree, question remains whether a batsman can rely on his instincts that the crunch last delivery will definitely be called a wide. Brothers Union won the match by the slim margin of 2 runs while DOHS still had seven wickets in hand at the end.

When the question was posed whether BCB were looking into the match, BCB media committee chairman Jalal Younus informed reporters today that no complaints had been made regarding the match, which would indicate that there were no suspicions raised on match referee Showkatur Rahman's official report.

"I don't think so. We haven't gotten any complaints. We don't tolerate match fixing. I have heard complaints regarding the match from many but we haven't gotten any reports. Also, we don't see any reason for the two participating teams to have been involved in something like this," Jalal said.

The ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) can bring forward their own report in case they find something substantial. "We haven't gotten anything [from ACU] yet," Jalal informed.
