‘Precautionary’ security for Shakib during practice

Star Online Report

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan had a security personnel present alongside him today as he practiced at BCB's Mirpur facilities. On November 16, a man named Mohsin Talukdar brandished a sharp weapon on a Facebook live video and threatened to kill Shakib for reportedly inaugurating puja mandap in India.

The security staff was appointed with the task to tag along with Shakib by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), although the cricket board does not feel there is a big threat on Shakib's life at the moment.

"Since a situation arose after an incident took place, we have taken precautionary measures. We have appointed one from among our own security personnel. It's not like that there is a big threat and which is why we have taken this measure," BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told The Daily Star today.

Shakib, who returned to the country on November 6 after his ban ended, has been the centre of quite a few controversies on his return. Shakib will be featuring for Gemcon Khulna in the T20 tournament, under the captaincy of national teammate Mahmudullah Riyad.
