Rain forces Mirpur to host more matches in next four days
The matches of the Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division T20 League had been postponed due to heavy rain in Dhaka and around the country today. The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) has announced that the fixtures which were to be played at BKSP on June 1 and 3 will now be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
There were six matches scheduled for today while tomorrow was supposed to be a rest day. However, due to heavy rain since early morning, all those matches were postponed. CCDM chairman Kazi Inam informed via a press release that two of the BKSP venues are waterlogged, but the postponed matches from the BKSP venues were shifted, resulting in a flurry of matches being rescheduled to be hosted at Mirpur for the next four days. Mirpur was originally scheduled to host two matches a day.
"The scheduled matches of the Bangabandhu DPL T20 Cricket League 2019-20 was halted today due to heavy rain which caused water logging at the two venues of BKSP. In conversation with the clubs and the BCB Management, the CCCM has decided to shift fixtures at BKSP scheduled on June 01, 03 to the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur which will hold three matches a day for the next four days (02-05 June). We take this opportunity to thank the clubs and the cricketers for their cooperation," Inam was quoted as saying in a press release.
With matches already scheduled for 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM, there will be evening matches under lights to accomodate the shift. The evening matches will begin from 6:00 PM.
The league, which was originally supposed to be in 50-over format, started yesterday in 20-over format after being suspended following just one round of matches due to the second wave of Covid-19. On the first day, only four out of the six matches that were to played, were completed on the opening day while the other two were abandoned due to rain.
