Rishad, Khaled shine on Day 1 of warm-up match against WI XI

Young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain and pacer Khaled Ahmed shone for the BCB XI on the first day of their three-day warm-up match against the visiting West Indies XI at the M.A Aziz Stadium in Chattogram today.

Leggie Rishad bagged a fifer while Khaled's pace and bounce helped him get a three-for as BCB XI ended the day with 24 for no loss in eight overs after bundling out the visitors for 257 in 79.1 overs.

No left-arm spinners were included in the BCB XI, perhaps as part of a plan to not let West Indies acclimatize to the type of spin attack that awaits them in the coming two-Test series. But still, it was Rishad, who troubled the Windies batsmen most on the day.

West Indies XI had however a bright start after electing to bat. Windies Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell were looking solid till the latter fell prey to Shahadat Hossain in the 20th over after a 67-run opening stand.

Brathwaite then started rebuilding with Sheyne Moseley as the duo strung a 43-run second-wicket stand. Just when the partnership started looking dangerous, Rishad removed Moseley (15 off 41) with a brilliant flipper. After that, the Windies lost their next four wickets adding just 55 on the scoreboard.

Brathwaite was the only Windies batsman who looked solid but he too was trapped in front off a Khaled delivery in the 73rd over. Brathwaite walked off the pitch after a brilliant 187-ball 85 featuring 10 boundaries.

Rishad wrapped it up by picking up the last three wickets, including the one of in-form batsman Kyle Mayers, who scored a 39-ball 40. Rishad finished with figures of five for 75 in 23.1 overs while Khaled returned figures of three for 46 in his 21 overs.

After the exchange, Saif Hassan remained unbeaten on 15 with Shadman Islam at 3 on the other end as BCB XI ended the day trailing by 233 runs.
