Shakib suffers strain on left thigh
Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has suffered a strain on his left thigh, confirmed the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) through a press release today.
Shakib was taken to the hospital for a scan today morning after his old groin injury seemingly resurfaced following a blow that he suffered during fielding on the second day of Tigers' first of two Tests against the West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram yesterday.
However, the BCB confirmed that the all-rounder picked up a new injury on a different region of his left thigh while fielding yesterday.
"Having recovered from his previous groin injury ahead of the first Test and successfully managing to bat in the Bangladesh first innings as well as send down six overs, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has suffered a strain in a different region of his left thigh while fielding on day two.
"The injury was confirmed by an MRI scan this morning. The BCB medical team will continue to treat and review his progress over the course of the first Test," read the press release.
The incident occured when Shakib came to bowl in the sixth over of the West Indies' innings after Tea on Thursday. The 33-year-old all-rounder seemed to have suffered a blow in his groin when he attempted to stop a ball with his leg after Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite pushed it towards mid-on for a single.
Shakib continued playing after that and bowled three more overs but had to leave the field after the 17th over of the innings.
Shakib was replaced by substitute Yasir Ali on the field today on the third day of the Tigers' Test against the West Indies in Chattogram. And it seems unlikely that the premier all-rounder will take any further part in today's play.
Shakib had earlier suffered a groin injury during Bangladesh's third and final ODI against the West Indies last month. He was kept under observation for 48 hours after that and only joined the Tigers' squad for training after recovering from the injury.
