Spinners Cornwall, Warrican rule the roost against BCB XI
Spinner Rahkeem Cornwall bagged a fifer and another left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican registered a three-for to help West Indies XI bundle out BCB XI for 160 on the second day of their three-day warm-up game at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram today.
After having started the day on 24 without any loss in eight overs, BCB XI could only bat 39.4 overs today. Pacer Kemar Roach removed Saif Hassan in the very first over of the day as the right-hander failed to add to his overnight score. Saif walked off the crease after a 33-ball 15.
Shadman Islam and Mohammad Naim Sheikh then started rebuilding and strung a 74-run second-wicket stand. However, Naim fell prey to Cornwall in the 26th over after a 48-ball 45, featuring nine boundaries.
BCB XI kept losing wickets at regular intervals since then with Cornwall and Warrican sharing the spoils between them. Cornwall finished with figures of five for 47 in 16.4 overs while Warrican ended the day with three for 25 in his seven overs.
West Indies Test skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, who scored a patiently built 187-ball 85 after having bat for over 4.5 hours on the first day, did not come out to open today, perhaps as part of a plan to give the other batsmen some time in the middle in the practice game.
John Campbell scored a 98-ball 68, featuring nine boundaries, before being removed by Saif in the 31st over. Nkrumah Bonner remained unbeaten for a 131-ball 80 as West Indies XI finished the day on 179 for five with a 276-run lead over BCB XI.
