Tamim ‘looking forward to open’ with Tamim
Two Tamims -- Tamim Iqbal and Tanzid Hasan Tamim -- will be stepping out to open tomorrow when Tamim XI will take on Mahmudullah XI in the second match of the BCB President's Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
The 19-year-old Tanzid, just like Tamim, is a left-handed opener. He was an integral part of the Bangladesh Under-19 side that won the Under-19 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year. And the senior Tamim, who is also the Bangladesh ODI skipper, said he finds great potential in his namesake.
"As far as I have seen him [Tanzid Hasan Tamim], he looks very exciting and promising. I practiced at the nets a few times with him and he looks to be a good prospect for the national side. Hope that he will have a good tournament. And I am looking forward to opening with him tomorrow," said Tamim.
Things might be tricky for the scoreboard operator tomorrow, just as it has been for the duo, who were 'confused' being referred by the same name during their group practice.
"I will be opening with Tamim, the other Tamim, tomorrow. We are getting a bit confused now. As everyone calls me Tamim bhai but now I hear people calling out 'Tamim, Tamim'. So, we both respond to such calls and it is a bit confusing. I asked everyone if they could call him by a different name then it would be better," chuckled Tamim [Iqbal].
Tamim XI practiced today at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium ahead of their match against Mahmudullah XI tomorrow at the same ground. Although players will be returning after a long halt, Tamim hoped that his troop can get the better of their opposition.
"Our advantage is that we were able to practice for a few days as a group. As I said, this will be a very high voltage tournament as everyone is very excited. We had a good practice today and hopefully, we can do well tomorrow."
