‘Two things need to be ensured before resuming domestic league’
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) would need to confirm two things before resuming the domestic league in the country, said the BCB president Nazmul Hassan to the media today.
The Dhaka Premier League (DPL) has been halted since mid-March after completion of the first round due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And although the BCB today announced that the cricketers will be returning to competitive cricket through a three-team 50-over tournament starting from October 11, Nazmul said there still might be some issues that needs to be solved before starting the domestic league. The BCB boss mainly pointed out two things that he thought needs to be ensured before the resumption of domestic league.
"There might be a problem in resuming domestic league [DPL]. We also want to resume domestic league but I want to know about two things first. Firstly, I want to know if the clubs are interested. Because it is the clubs who will have to manage their players so they need to be interested. Secondly, I need to know how will the clubs ensure players' safety and their plan regarding creating a bio-secure bubble. If they can provide me with a security plan as to where the players will stay and how they will manage, then I do not have any problem regarding resumption of the league [DPL]," said Nazmul.
After the completion of the three-team 50-over tournament on October 23, BCB also plans to start a corporate T20 league from mid-November. The BCB president mentioned that the board is yet to decide if they will be allowing foreign players in that T20 league.
