EC approves 32 out of 33 candidates’ nominations
The Election Commission for the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) board of directors’ election has approved 32 out of 33 nomination papers, announcing the list of eligible candidates on Saturday.
The only nomination rejected was that of Jashim Uddin Khan Khoshru from the Gopalganj District Sports Association.
The candidate will have the opportunity to appeal the decision on Sunday during the designated objection and hearing process. If his nomination is not reinstated, Sayed Bin Zaman and S M Abdullah Al Fuad from Dhaka Division will be elected unopposed.
Four more councillors -- Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto from Rajshahi Division, Mirza Faisal Ahmed from Rangpur Division, Abdul Qaiyum Chowdhury from Sylhet Division (all from Category-1), and Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir from Category-3 -- will also be elected unopposed after their nomination papers were approved on Saturday.
As it stands, elections will be held in three divisions -- Chattogram, Khulna, and Barishal -- where the number of candidates exceeds the available directorial positions. A total of four directors will be elected from these three sub-categories.
Meanwhile, the EC also announced the names of the 18 club councillors contesting for directorships from Category-2, from which 12 directors will be elected. All 18 candidates were cleared to run after their nominations were approved.
The candidates are: Fahim Sinha, Masuduzzaman, Mohammad Lutfor Rahman, Asif Rabbani, Foiyazul Rahman, Yasir Mohammed Foysal Ashik, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Amzad Hossain, Mirza Yasir Abbas, Israfil Khosru, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Babu, Professor Dr Sarkar Mahbub Ahmed Shamim, Shanian Taneem, Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed, Syed Borhanul Hossain, Shafiq Ahmed Salam, Major Imroze Ahmed (Retd) and Mohammad Mahmud-ur-Rahman.
Candidates may withdraw their candidature on May 25, with the publication of the final list also scheduled for the same day.
