Khaled links up with Hasan at Kent for County Championship

Kent Cricket on Tuesday confirmed the signing of Bangladesh pacer Khaled Ahmed for September’s Rothesay County Championship fixtures, subject to regulatory approval.

The right-arm seamer has joined Kent alongside Bangladesh teammate Hasan Mahmud for four County Championship matches during the run-in to the club’s red-ball season, the county side said in a press release.

Khaled made his first-class debut for his home division, Sylhet, in 2015 and has since taken 190 wickets in 70 first-class appearances.

The 32-year-old made his Test debut for Bangladesh in 2018 and has claimed 34 wickets in 18 Tests.

“It’s an honour for me to play county cricket and join a club with such a big history as Kent,” Khaled said.

“This is an important part of our season, and I am determined to help the team achieve promotion.

“When I first heard the news, it was an easy decision to say yes. Both Hasan and my agent have told me lots of good things about their experience with Kent and what a family club it is.

“I hope I will make Kent’s members and supporters, as well as fans back in Bangladesh, proud.”

Kent’s Director of Cricket Simon Cook said the club were delighted to have Khaled join Hasan in Canterbury for the final stages of the season.

“We wanted to add a bowler who could immediately strengthen our squad and give us greater flexibility through the final stages of the season,” Cook said.

“With three of our final four games at home, we can stick with a formula that worked well in the first half of the year, while also having the flexibility to rest and rotate our frontline bowlers without compromising performance levels.

“It’s great to see that so many Bangladeshi cricket fans have started following Kent since Hasan’s first stint here earlier this summer, and we hope Khaled’s arrival will help that continue.”
