Shoriful could follow in Hasan’s footsteps to county cricket

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam could follow in Hasan Mahmud’s footsteps and turn out for County Championship side Kent, with the club having expressed interest in signing him, sources confirmed on Tuesday.

Kent reportedly want Shoriful for four matches this season. The pacer has discussed the possibility with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), although no decision has yet been made on his No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Shoriful, who passed a fitness test yesterday ahead of the second Test against Australia in Mackay from August 22, is currently focused on making himself available for the match. He missed the first Test after suffering a Grade 1 hamstring injury.

Bangladesh are scheduled to host India for three ODIs and three T20Is in September, although the series remains in doubt. If it is not played during the September window, Shoriful could get the green light for his first county stint.

In June, Hasan Mahmud made a big impression in his first appearances for Kent, taking 12 wickets in just two matches, including a first-class career-best of 6 for 69 in a Player of the Match performance against Lancashire at Blackpool.
